My Thread, My Word's first stop was at the raw and energetic space generously hosted by Michael Braddock and Pheelix from the awesome Silent Army Storeroom. Sewing commenced over small cups of tea served alongside large mugs of coffee:-) To find out more about the Silent Army Storeroom, please visit www.silentarmy.org

About My Thread, My Word: My Thread, My Word (MTMW) is a communal sewing project with a simple goal: for people to gather within a specific venue to make some art together, or in this particular case, sew some art together. The inspiration for MTMW came from my brief working experiences with the elder generation of my country, where a large proportion of them were never exposed to Western art medium such as paints and crayons. Many learnt sewing and other craft-based techniques from a very young age, as a necessary skill for future job opportunities. In some cases, they opted to utilize sewing as an artistic outlet too. From there, I grew interested to find out how sewing processes could be facilitated (and enhanced) to capture differences, similarities and connections between people from all walks of life.
